Getting started - Securing your Waltio account

This article explains how to secure your Waltio account using a protected email address, a strong password, and two-factor authentication (2FA).

📝 Description

The security of your Waltio account relies on several elements: a protected email address, a unique password, and two-factor authentication (2FA). Take a few minutes to follow the best practices below to secure your Waltio account.

⚠️ Warnings

  • Keep your recovery key safe. It is essential for regaining access to your account if you lose your phone or access to your authenticator app.

  • You must maintain access to the email address associated with your Waltio account. If you lose access to your inbox or your 2FA recovery codes, Waltio will not be able to recover your account or disable two-factor authentication.

📤 Use a Secure Email Address

Preferably use an email address that is:

  • dedicated to your financial or administrative services;

  • rarely exposed publicly;

  • different from the one used on social networks or forums;

  • itself protected by a unique password and two-factor authentication.

⚠️ The email address linked to your Waltio account is essential for logging in and recovering your account. If you lose access to your email account, it will be impossible to recover your Waltio account.

💡 Choose a Strong and Unique Password

Your Waltio password should preferably:

  • be different from all your other passwords;

  • contain at least 12 characters;

  • combine letters, numbers, and special characters;

  • contain no easily guessable information.

⚠️ Never use the same password for your email address and Waltio. A password manager can help you create and store unique passwords.

📝 Enable Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)

Two-factor authentication, or 2FA, adds a temporary code on top of your password each time you log in.

⚠️ When enabling 2FA, Waltio provides you with a recovery key. Write it down and keep it in a safe place, ideally separate from your phone. It will allow you to set up 2FA on a new device if you lose your phone. Never share this key.

  1. Log in to Waltio, then go to My Profile > Security > Two-factor authentication (2FA): Enable.

  2. Download one of the following apps on your phone: Google Authenticator or Authy.

  3. Open the authenticator app and tap + to add an account.

  4. Scan the QR code displayed in Waltio. If you cannot scan the QR code, manually enter the setup key shown on the screen.

  5. Before completing activation, copy or write down your recovery key and store it in a safe place. ⚠️ Do not store it only on your phone.

  6. Enter the temporary code displayed by your authenticator app into Waltio, then click Submit. Two-factor authentication will now be required for every login.

⚠️ Important Warning: If you lose your 2FA recovery codes, your account cannot be recovered. Waltio will not be able to disable two-factor authentication for you.

💡 Best Practices to Remember

  • Use a dedicated, low-exposure email address.

  • Protect your email address with a unique password and 2FA.

  • Use a strong Waltio password that is different from your other passwords.

  • Never share your password, 2FA codes, or recovery key.

  • Keep your recovery key in a secure location accessible in case you lose your phone.
