📝 Description
Learn how to identify balance discrepancies on your account dashboard and explore the primary steps to resolve them independently.
💡 Good to know
Zero impact on your tax report: A balance discrepancy between your Portfolio and your exchange does not imply that your tax return is inaccurate. If you are concerned about your tax report, consult your Stock Sheet, which reflects the calculated balances based on all your recorded transactions.
Transactions created manually or imported via a Waltio template file are not factored into the dashboard. You cannot adjust portfolio balances by manually creating transactions. Only transactions synchronized via API and native platform exchange files are counted.
Focus by platform: If you spot an issue with a specific token, it is almost certainly a platform-specific discrepancy. Always navigate to the Platforms tab in your portfolio to isolate and review variances.
📂 Case 1: The discrepancy stems from an API connection
Examples: "My balance doesn't match on Binance!" or "The Kraken data looks incorrect!"
Review our integration tutorials to confirm that you have followed every setup step. For example, Binance requires both a transaction file export and an API connection. Ensure both have been properly added.
Verify your API key permissions by referencing the dedicated integration guide. Make sure the configured permissions strictly match those recommended in our documentation.
📂 Case 2: The discrepancy stems from a connected wallet
Examples: "I cannot see my tokens on Solana!" or "My TAO balance is missing!"
Check your actual balance directly on the blockchain explorer for the respective network.
Share this balance information with our Support team if the anomaly persists.
Keep in mind that staked assets or yield-bearing tokens are not always displayed natively across all wallets.
💡 Wallets supporting native staking display: Cardano, Tron, NEAR, Algorand, Terra, Hyperliquid, Bittensor, and Cosmos.
📝 Case 3: The discrepancy stems from a transaction file
Example: "My Bybit balance is incorrect!"
Ensure that all your imported transaction files are fully up to date.
Verify that date ranges across your different transaction files do not overlap, in order to prevent duplicate entries.
⚠️ Case 4: The discrepancy stems from a closed platform account
Example: "I no longer have assets on Bitget because I closed my account!"
You may have missed running a final API synchronization before closing your platform account. In this case, hide the relevant token by reporting its price from the interface.
If it originates from a transaction file, simply uncheck the token to ignore it.
💡 Case 5: The discrepancy stems from an incorrect token valuation
Examples: "My VELO token shows the wrong price; the wrong asset is being fetched!" or "I don't recognize this token; its valuation makes no sense."
By default, Waltio fetches the price of the token with the highest market capitalization (market cap) on CoinGecko.
It is technically impossible to automatically differentiate two distinct tokens sharing the exact same ticker symbol.
If your token holds the highest market cap on CoinGecko but its valuation is still incorrect, please contact Support.
Otherwise, no technical fix is available on our side. You can hide the token from your Portfolio, either by unchecking it or by reporting its price:
Click the three dots menu icon to the right of the token.
Select Report price.
If a token displays an absurd valuation and you never purchased it, report it as a Scam:
Click the three dots menu icon to the right of the token.
Select Add to scams.
📂 Case 6: The discrepancy stems from global overview metrics
Examples: "I never invested this amount!" or "I didn't withdraw this much!"
These metrics are calculated from all operations recorded on the Transactions page and match the underlying figures used for your tax report. To resolve discrepancies here, you must review your transactions:
Total Invested: Total fiat spent purchasing cryptocurrencies across all currencies, converted into your base reference currency.
Total Passive Income: Total passive rewards earned (staking, mining, airdrops, etc.), converted into your base reference currency.
Total Withdrawn: Total proceeds recovered from fiat sales or crypto payments, converted into your base reference currency.
Fees Paid: Total fees paid across all exchanges and wallets since your very first transaction.
Investor Since: Date of your earliest transaction detected in Waltio.
💡 Leverage filters to efficiently navigate and audit your transactions.
➕ Case 7: The discrepancy stems from yield products (staking, yield, lending...)
👉 Consult the summary table of unsupported yield products per platform below. Balances tied to these specific products cannot be reflected on your dashboard.
💡 This does not mean your tax report is incorrect! Provided you imported the transactions representing these reward flows, they will be properly included in your tax computations. When in doubt, always refer to your Stock Sheet.
